Learning something new

Going through my behavior modification lessons, and today I was challenged to build a mastery-oriented goal. Mastery-oriented goals are goals where people are focused on learning, mastering tasks, self-improvement, and developing new skills. Well this challenge was eye opening. First, I want to learn something that has nothing to do with my weight or body. I want to learn how to use power tools. As I continued through the exercise, setting why, what, and when it hit me… even when it’s not related, I am still lessening to relate the tricks! I set a goal for learning how to use my saw and sander, by the end of the month, and knew I could achieve it because I know what I want the end result to look like. I have used the wood before, and I know what to watch for… ummmm. Hmmmm. I know how to do this, I know what it takes to get to my goal, I have used the tips and tricks this far, and they work. I just have to keep doing what I am doing… learn as I go, adjust with each lesson, and be patient. It has taken me 54 years to figure this out. But somehow today… I got it!!!
